Metallurgical Engineering

Overview

Metallurgical Engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with physical & chemical properties of metallic element & their compounds. The three main branches of metallurgical engineering are as follows:

  • Physical Metallurgy: It only deals with the development of metallic alloys needed in different types of manufacturing and construction purpose.
  • Extractive Metallurgy: It involves extracting metals from ore.
  • Mineral Processing: It involves collecting mineral products from the earth’s crust.

The metallurgical engineering program is planned with an expectation to get students ready to meet the developing needs of the Indian business in the field of metallurgical and materials designing. Students gain information about growing astounding metal items all through the different phases of the assembling procedure and additionally how to test and assess the last item. They are prepared in the zones like extraction, physical and mineral handling. They become more acquainted with how to change normal mineral assets into helpful items for the general public and furthermore find out about pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy. As a component of mineral preparing, understudies are trained how to oversee and control forms for isolating, freeing the important minerals from metals.

Metallurgical engineers work with different types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Metallurgical Engineers remove impurities of metals and recycle metals. They are helpful in developing and improving metals that are used in healthcare, transportation, defense, and entertainment industry. The work done in metallurgical engineering effects other engineering fields directly or indirectly. They develop such materials that can improve the function of many products & systems.

Courses & Eligibility

The eligibility for pursuing Metallurgical engineering, Student must have cleared 10+2 examination with Biology, Maths, Physics, & Chemistry as main subjects.

The candidates are required to study subjects such as physical metallurgy and extraction metallurgy etc. Average fee of the course is INR 75,000 per annum for government institutes.

For  IITs, it is compulsory to qualify in the Joint Entrance Examinations  (J.E.E).
